Short Presentations of God’s Word April 11th, 2007
One of the five pillars (duties) of Islam is to pray five times a day.
As the call to prayer rings out from mosques around North Africa, national television channels interrupt programming to broadcast their own call to prayer, immediately followed by several minutes of Koranic chanting. The musical chanting is often accompanied by nature pictures or text from the Koran. MMC’s “Bible Reading Shorts” is an Arabic Ministries’ project based on this idea.
MMC is providing Bible readings up to two minutes in length to our North African satellite partners to be used as “filler” airtime between other scheduled programs. Passages are read from the Gospel of Luke while video footage depicts scenes from North African countryside and cities. According to the project’s initiator, “The purpose of the Bible Reading Shorts is to make the word of God accessible on a much wider basis … to a population of people who are either illiterate or semi-literate.” If all goes well, the project will be expanded in the future to include readings from other books of the Bible such as Mark and Genesis.
Some samples of MMC’s Arabic Bible Reading Shorts, Luke 8:16-18 and Luke 9:18-21, are available on the Media page.
